Spray Foam Insulation

There are a lot of options to choose from when it comes to types of insulation for your home or business. However, in order to get a return on your investment, it’s important to find one that will sufficiently improve the comfort and efficiency of your building. At Diversified Insulation, we’re a spray foam insulation contractor with three generations of experience in the industry, and we’ve found that closed-cell spray foam is one of the most effective when insulating a home, pole barn, or commercial building.

Known for its superior insulative and air sealing capabilities, closed-cell spray foam insulation offers a wide variety of benefits, including:

  • Improved indoor air quality

  • Reduced risk of moisture & mold growth

  • High R-Value for optimal protection

  • Air, vapor, and radiant barrier

  • Increased structural integrity

  • Energy savings & lower utility costs

  • Pest control

How Spray Foam Insulation Works

Spray foam insulation is a unique type of insulation that’s made by combining two chemicals, polyurethane and isocyanate, and sprayed throughout a building. At first, the solution has a foam-like texture, however, it will expand up to 60 times its original size and harden as it cures, creating an airtight barrier that protects your home or business from the outside elements.

Closed-Cell vs Open-Cell Spray Foam

There are two different options for spray foam insulation: closed-cell and open-cell. “Cells” refers to tiny bubbles that make up the foam and impact its ability to resist heat and airflow. With closed-cell spray foam, the cells are tightly packed and completely enclosed to create a dense, rigid structure. In open-cell spray foam, the cells are only partially enclosed with more space between them, creating a final product that’s more malleable and soft.

At Diversified Insulation, we work with closed-cell foam because it offers a vapor barrier where open-cell cannot, has a higher R-value of R7 per inch, and provides added structural support for any building. Much of our service area in Southeastern Wisconsin is considered a climate zone 5, which is accustomed to volatile weather and drastic temperature swings throughout the year. This makes spray foam home insulation essential for managing heat & energy loss, moisture issues, and other seasonal issues.

The Importance of Using a Professional Spray Foam Insulation Company

The process of installing spray foam insulation requires knowledge, experience, and attention to detail, which is why it’s always recommended to work with a professional. Spray foam leaves little room for errors and incorrectly mixing the chemicals or other mistakes can quickly lead to a less effective final product, serious injuries, and even permanent damage to your building.
